This, of course, provided that all renewal fees are timely paid.
So the arithmetic is simple: If you get a patent granted in 5 years, then you may have a maximum patent protection of 15 years.
Unfortunately, there are applicants who are granted a patent 11 years after filing; the may benefit from the patent protection 9 years at most.
The sooner you get a patent granted, the longer the patent protection you can enjoy.
