Your first priority when starting a new project should be to check whether your planned activity infringes on others' patents. Whether you plan to develop a new product, import something, manufacture and sell something, you should check that you are permitted to do so.
Proper preparation may save you a lot of money.
Patent search re infringement differs from patent search re filing a new patent application: In the former case you should check patents in force in the country where you plan to operate; in the latter, you search for patents worldwide, whether in force or not, and anything in the public domain: patent applications, technical literature, etc.
Re infringement, you may also search for published patent applications, which may become a threat later on. You may consider opposing a patent grant thereon, if and when the issue becomes relevant.
In the United States, the danger of patent infringement is more severe, for the Court may grant up to three times the actual damages ("Treble Damages").

If successful, the patent owner may be granted a compensation, a payment from infringers.
Success is not guaranteed, however, even if you have a granted patent. The question arises, How strong is your patent?
The first line of defense of an infringer is to try to invalidate your patent. In many cases, the infringer has done his homework and found a weakness in your patent, thus an opportunity to attack.
It's not nice to start a legal battle against an infringer, only to end with no compensation and no patent.
We can help you strengthen your patent, so as to improve your chances of success, see

You are competing with all the inventors worldwide- the first to file an application, has a better chance to win.
Marc personally handles all our office's customers- and only accepts a limited number of projects at a time.
Marc personally answers questions- and only a limited number of questions each day.
